A Visit to the Chernobyl Zone

7 posts in this topic

Hey Guys,

A short video I made on the only Exile server running the Chernobyl Zone map...would love someone to do this map properly because it's awesome but the guys running this one still have a lot of bugs to iron out. Anyway hope you enjoy.

Yeah you're probably right...would take a dedicated modder to expand it a bit but cool nonetheless. I think the server was 30 slots but they had bugs left right and center...wasn't the usual BE restrictions but just a lot of random unexplained deaths which I suppose is right for an irradiated wasteland.

Well the map is not even finished yet, it's still under heavy development, it's not recommended for use yet, so there's your explanation of why it's bugging out, and stuff.

Follow the development here: https://a3chz.blogspot.com ^_^

If they're adding a lot  to the areas that are currently empty, I can see this map having potential. Right now all of the apartments are unenterable and most, if not all, of the buildings as the power plant are also unenterable.

Take away "they're" and add "he", then you got it right, it's 1 guy working in his free time on this terrain, so the progress is obviously very slow, but so far to say the least he has done a very nice job on it, however it needs a lot of polishing and tweaking, but I would assume we'll see that over the next couple of months, it's fine that people run this terrain on their servers, but they shouldn't complain about it  being buggy and such, since it's far from being done, but it's been published on workshop which was kind of a dick move from the creator, because people will think "OH NICE IT'S A CHERNOBYL TERRAIN!!! WE NEED TO RUN A SERVER WITH THIS."- and then hoping for it to be fully functional, which it isn't.

The terrain has a lot of potential when it comes to bio-warfare gameplay styles, as far as I could understand from the progress, he will be doing all the areas around Prip'yat and Chernobyl itself, so the end result will be a way bigger terrain, but as mentioned earlier, it's 1 guy solely working on the terrain, so the progress is slow.

But for now, I wouldn't recommend anybody running the terrain on any official servers, because it's bugged as fuck, right now it can only be used as showcase, and inspiration, for future work :)

Yeah definitely, the map development is awesome, wandering round is stunning, it was just all server side issues with the nuclear events and conflicting mods, or so it seems based on my experience of setting up Exile servers. Like you say...not really meant for all out Exile but it was fun nonetheless, I think the guys have tried to make it work; the nuclear anomaly thing is pants-shitting the first time you hear it.
