Loot re-balance

8 posts in this topic

Hi all.

Before you say it, I know server owners can do this, but a lot of servers prefer to keep their loot closely to the default.

So here's my (our?) wishes.

  • Add "low tier" weapons (possibly from CUP) such as AKs, etc.
  • Spawn more pistols, more submachine guns, and less rifles/snipers
  • Make the "low tier" weapons MUCH more common than the "regular" arma 3 weapons
  • SIGNIFICANTLY increase the prices of the majority of the A3 weapons (maybe excluding subs & pistols)
  • Increase the prices (and increase rarity) of all optics. Nothing says "survival" like ironsights!

This is a similar sort of direction as it looks like you guys are going with vehicles. Introducing a "lower tier" is great, but only if you make the higher tier harder to get hold of.

At the moment I can roll up to a trader and get fully-geared for under 1k, which is pretty dumb for a "survival" mod.

Edit: Doing a similar thing with clothing would be great too! more expensive military gear, less expensive civ/guerrilla gear.

Thanks.

This is actually something I am very focused about.

I used to have a PvE Server online, but decided to discontinue it, and do a lot of preperation stuff for Namalsk update, I figured to disable the loot system in Exile completely and custom write loot systems, to match exactly these things, another good thing could be scavenging, which makes you able to scavenge in rubbish and such, to find low-end items, Exile gives you tons of customization options, you just have to use your imagination a bit, and be creative ^_^

I agree but like I said, the majority of server owners won't take the time to completely re-balance the game, whereas if the devs did this, all servers would benefit :)

Default Exile loot tables are 'OK' - it's the server owners that feel you should able to find a titan AA launcher in a supermarket :D

default loot & trader tables are ok.... but could still do with a default cull by devs

Still the most important thing is to reduce the sell price to 0.4 or 0.3 because no matter how much it cost u can find everything in default exile so u will get the half amount of cash since selling is the only one way to make money. If exile would sort the big expensive weapons from spawning out then there would be a difference. So increasing the prices a bit and lowering the sell price would be the perfect solution. The default exile prices are a bit unbalanced like the SPMG is cheaper then the 6.5mm MX SW ...

Agree and I would go further to say traders that permanently carry every possible game item are a pretty dumb idea for a survival mod.

However, increasing trader prices simply increases the competition gap between the cashed up server regulars and the bambis.  Pretty soon clueless admins are advertising $10K starting cash to reduce that gap and try to attract players and Exile as we know it disappears down the toilet like so many other mods before it.  I agree Exile needs to steer a little closer to Breaking Point and a little further away from Wasteland but I don’t think kick-starting economic inflation is the way to go.

To work around this problem, I've taken rare/powerful equipment out of the traders altogether and I have rare stuff like laser designators and DLC rifles spawning (at a rate of between 1 in 1000 and 1 in 10,000) in military zones which are guarded by AI.  Everyone in my server knows if you want l33t gear you’ve got to get off your ass and go find it.  Players are stoked when they find an AMS optic or a suppressor in their favourite calibre.

Firefights happen with all kinds of “low end” weapons and players are just happy to have a gun and be able to defend themselves.

It seems weird; there’s lots of serious players/admins on these forums and they mostly seem to agree that rare gear, low tech, survival based, PvP servers are the way to go but those servers are almost non-existent online and the few I've managed to find are mostly empty.  Can the people who think like this get together and thrash out some agreed settings and then pitch our ideas to the devs?  They could roll these settings into a “Nightmare” or “Survival” mode alongside Regular and Hardcore in the next release.  As long as we had something official we might have a hope of setting and maintaining some standards among server admins. I might start a thread to capture ideas for a "Survival" mode…
