Arma 3 Exile Server Performance

14 posts in this topic

Hey Everybody so i'm running an arma 3 exile server with All in arma terrain pack, Mas Vehicles, ASDG Joint Rails and Cup Weapons.

My Cpu usage is whole time over 60% if the server is 50/50 filled then it will be 90+ with Serverfps of 12 ServerCps under 5 and Headlessclient like 30 Fps,

Is this normal?

Intel® Xeon® E3-1270 v3 Quad-Core
and 32GB of ram

just as a example, on our altis server 65/65 fresh wipe so 100-200 objects we got 47 server fps.

2 Weeks later ~5K objects we got 25-35fps with 65 players.

2-3 more weeks ~10K objects we are down to 12-20fps with 65 players.
We have a i7 4790k cpu.

im setting the owner of the basebuilding objects to the headlessclient doesn't this prevent the fps of dropping down from the server

Mmh so the question is where does the drop to 5 fps come from at your server? When not from the buildings.

The key is to keep the object counts and vehicle counts as low as possible.  Once you get over 5k -7k objects and +25 players you'll start seeing server FPS in the 20-30 range, dropping a further ~2-3 FPS for every player added.  There's a very good reason why the default base building limit is 300 pieces per territory.  If you increase it to say 400 pieces or so, you're gonna have a bad time after a while.  The issue is that Arma just does very poorly performance-wise with high object counts.  It doesn't matter what CPU you use or how much memory your server has.  Even a 4.0+GHz CPU will slow to a crawl with high object counts and high player counts.  All you can do is be smart about your object management and make sure to do proper cleanup on old items that aren't being used by players.  Pretty much delete anything from the database that hasn't been used in 7 days and then you're doing your best.  Some people like to delete unused vehicles after 48-72 hours.  That's not a terrible idea, but some players can only play on certain days of the week.  So if you are removing stuff too quickly you'll piss off players in a hurry, so you have to balance it.
