Solo Player Strategy/Fun in a Clan World

So I'm one of those few (or fewer) players out there that plays this mod solo. My playtimes are shorter and more irregular than most, so I've never found grouping up/being in a clan to be of much use. So... for all of my other solo yolo brethren out there, what's your strategy for surviving in the harsh world of Exile where crews of 3+ are the norm and you're always rolling solo? What do you do for fun besides looting? 

For me, I've kind of taken the solo sniper/survivalist route... kind of like the normal sniper gameplay in King of the Hill. I'm also thinking of doing kind of a surveillance type of operation by tailing people with drones to find out where they live and sizing them up from afar.

I roll solo most of the time. Mainly I travel cross country on foot and I tend to hunt the people doing missions. Let them get most of the AI down, kill the players and deal with the straggler AIs. I pick what I want up and fill the recycle vehicle I might have then sell the whole mess. Rinse, repeat.

The drone idea might work but they'll know something is up when the thing comes flying by. Use thermals, sit back and watch first. Make a plan and be flexible but stay alert.

Its actually fun just to follow people around... well till they do something stupid and get killed. Its easier in the day time and with the popularity brought by Exile there are a lot of clueless players No one EVER looks behind them(when you follow them over the crest of a hill and realize they stopped 10m in front of you) . Set up next to them when they start shooting at AI missions, Its like a reality show simulator. I have followed a group of 5 into there base then they left and locked me in, had to roll off the roof to escape, lost them that day but I know where they live now and will check on them from time to time. SOLO is the only was to go!

The drones are kind of loud I would hope some one would hear them (maybe rain would cover it)
