You released wipe Info too soon

You guys released info about a wipe to soon when your not even close to releasing your next update. We have community members who watch exile.majormittens.co.uk 

who now have the mind set of why bother playing if there is going to be a server wipe and because we don't know when a release is going to happen they are off playing other games. In your twitch you guys said it may be another week or 2 before you release anything. 

Lucky the other game our players went to was our to our epoch server. Please control your information, if its about a wipe do it day or 2 before you release your update

 

From a players standpoint i understand what they are thinking why bother playing exilemod when everything we do from this point until release update and wipe server is pretty pointless.

 

From a server owner standpoint i understand the wipe and im down for it, but losing my player base due poorly contorted information. "ya sucks"

no.. really not too early. There are people that dont read exile.majormittens.co.uk every day or are maybe playing once a week...

By knowing that theres a Wipe coming , Server Owners can backup their Servers early enough and players can start blowing out their money early enough.

I disagree, one player visiting this forum then goes on a server and starts telling everyone there is going to be a wipe. It's like Chinese fucking whispers.  You yourself are perpetuating this by saying 'i heard update will come tomorrow?!?'

Until we get an official confirmation about things, people need to to just chill out and wait.

Yeah, I actually put a message on my server pointing to the release notes to get people excited about the new features, etc.  Total backfire once the wipe info was added, lol.  Ya live an learn.  I don't plan on wiping.  I'm digging into my nerdy ninja SQL skills in an attempt to avoid it.

Also, as a side note/possible suggestion.  One of my biggest gripes and I'd say most players with survival type mods or games where you build and obtain loot is any type of wipe.  Nobody likes to lose their crap.  So if in the future we can have database upgrade scripts or a migration utility that would be stellar.  I know its not easy, but just think how much more people would love this mod if their stuff NEVER got wiped.  I know its also not always possible.  But maybe some attention to this being an actual feature "The never wipe mod" would keep peoples interest.

A prime example of this is ARK.  You can spend months building an obtaining crap.  Then baaam, admin wipe.

As an admin we don't really care.  Starting fresh does wonders for our db size and performance, but from a players perspective its discouraging.

I'm quite glad someone finally said it. I haven't seen a single exile server that was busy since people heard about the wipe. Me and a couple mates started running our own server and it was finally growing in player base. Then the  announcement get's put out and no players joining anymore.   

I'm guessing the good thing about this all will be the server will have more people. Because players have nothing to return to.

We are full every day (as many other servers) but i know what you mean. However Eichi already wrote he understood and will not do the same mistake again.
