Respect on a public hive!

10 posts in this topic

Hello,

Not sure if it would be possible at all, but could respect go on a public hive? This would mean all private servers are connected to a public hive so respect stays on your character across all servers running Exile Mod. Respect would no longer be depending on one server, it would be depending on a global database.

Big advantage: When a private server drops in popularity/dies, you can just go to another server and continue with the respect you had.

Is it possible, if a community has multiple servers are setup that way. GG is just like that, all money and respect transfers over.

Thanks for your reply.

I really think that the public hive should be official, meaning its hosted by the Exile team. So that they can monitor and manage it. It's really important that more than 60% of all servers running exile are connected to it. Otherwise it's not worth it in my opinion.

Could a dev please look into this idea? =) Other opinions are still welcome!

I might be missing something here but wouldn't that just open the door to abuse? What's stopping players respect farming on empty servers then using it on busy public servers?

Go play Breaking Point if you want this. xD

Agreed, could be abused on large scale, very easily, and if it had a Hive system it would require Exile Team to run the servers as well, as they would need to be in full control over all data transmitted, otherwise this data could be manipulated by private server hosters.

I was thinking along the lines of @Boxman80.

I would think it be fairly easy for server providers to amend the respect values awarded, what stops a player playing on a server in which you get 1000 respect per kill and then playing on a server in which you get 100 per kill.

what is to stop me going on a server that is empty (we have one) knocking over my pals for 500 respect over and over again then taking that on to the one we actually play and getting a advantage over everyone on there.

1. A system like the current one can always be abused, doesn't matter if it's a full or empty server. But yeah, I guess it would increase with a public hive. :/

2. @ka0s You brought up Breaking Point. If it works for that mod, why wouldn't it work for this one? I remember it also worked on DayZ Mod Vanilla.

Basically my point was to know if there are any possibilities to keep respect secure over long term instead of being dependent on a private server their (often short) life span.

(Thanks for participating in the discussion. ;))

Yes, but the source code is not released either, they're keeping it to BP Dev team, only the BP Team hosts server, no privates at all, that was my point.

Ah okay.

Wouldn't it be cool if Team Exile hosted a few public servers themselves? I know it would be very expensive, but there are always ways to get donations.

In some way it would be cool, agreed.

However that would take off the purpose of individuals hosting servers, and since the source code is released to public, they're vulnerable to attacks, since it wouldn't take long to find loop holes in the code to abuse on the public servers.

There is a lot of factors in place for this, I mean they would have to revamp the entire code, and change everything and lock it down tight to avoid any attacks or malicious code.

Now I've given my opinion, the idea itself is good, but.... :)
