Reward for roadkills

8 posts in this topic

I've just started playing this mod a few days ago and there's something I don't understand: why the hell do I get extra respect for roadkilling someone?

I've seen (and been in) a situation a couple of times now: someone with 6.5mm or lower tries to attack some better equipped guys. In most cases they're more people and have far better equipment. Instead of doing a firefight (this is Arma, fight!) one of them gets in his Strider and runs the guy over.

Afaik you get 500 respect for roadkill but a lot less for a normal kill. But this roadkill requires ZERO skill and is like David vs. Goliath. Instead of a entertaining firefight with a bit uneven chances it always ends in a nooby roadkill.

The worst thing is that people get encouraged to do roadkills because of the respect they gain. I would not go so far and make the killer loose respect since this could be abused, but no respect gain would help to start a fight instead of this stupid roadkill bullshit.

I was surprised when I learned that roadkills give more respect than any other type of kill. I'm not saying it should give zero, but if anything it might be a good idea to give less for vehicle kills than a standard straight up 100 point shot-to-the-face-kill. I'm pretty sure we can agree that encouraging people to face each other down with guns instead of vehicles is preferrable.

At the moment, if a player has the choice between running someone over and jumping out to engage in a gunfight, of course he will choose to run them over. In fact, even if the rewards were equal you'd prefer to do the roadkill since that is the safer option. To justify exiting the vehicle and thus give the opponent a greater chance of fighting back, there needs to be something in it such as extra respect points. In the current iteration, the already preferrable option is rewarded further, so you end up letting the vehicle drivers have their cake and eat it too.

Striders are OP as it is with little but static explosives to combat them. Don't reward the growing "bumper car mentality". :P

I am completely in agreement. This bare so much resemblance to an with Overpoch -- where the Hunter was a problem. Unless RPGs are implemented, I dont see a reason to make armored cars so easy to get and even less to make road kills worth more than a gun kill. That last part makes absolutely no sense to me and roadkills should be worth half or less respect. There are rocket launchers on some NPCs some of the time - they dont always come with rockets and most servers dont want you using them anyway. If the available armory is going to stay as it is - Striders and Ifrits should be pushing 15-25,000k+ and going beyond that roadkills should be giving less respect, not five times more than a regular kill. It takes no effort what so every to run someone over in a vehicle, especially one thats as quick off road as it is on road (striders, ifrits, hunters).

I hope this is addressed quickly, I can see this getting quickly out of hand becoming a mod where who ever has the most armored cars wins.

My first thought was that a negative value could be abused by running in front of someones car to get roadkilled.

But now I'd say -100 is OK. Abuse wouldn't hit that hard and even with 0 people wouldn't stop roadkilling.

I agree with this 100%

No respect should be granted for running someone over.

This should be the default settings.

Grant 500 respect for a headshot.
