Recommendations for an Upgrade

7 posts in this topic

I'll try and keep this short and to the point..

  • Currently Running 3 Exile servers, 2 of which become full every day (70/80players), the third is new and only has a small player base (5/15players)
  • Server FPS is good/great after a wipe obviously as the server does not have many objects loaded
  • After a few days the number of objects on the servers obviously increases hugely and the FPS rate is effected.
  • We are currently using two separate dedicated servers with the following specs:
    • 1st: Intel Xeon E3, 4/8t and 32GB of RAM - running at 3.4 / 3.8 GHz (One server is run off this)
    • 2nd: Intel Xeon E5, 4/8t and 64GB - running at 3,7 / 3,8 GHz (The other two are run off this)

Does anyone here have any suggestions for an upgrade (something which we can rely on to keep a steady FPS rate while a high level of objects is present)?

Thanks in advance!

You shouldn't have to have these on seperate boxes.

I run two 64/64 servers, one Exile and the other Wasteland and we hit nightly around 80% CPU. This is on an E3-1270V3 with 16gb RAM. Everything is fine, server FPS is good and rarely drops below the teens. These both have HC's which keep the AI good to go. I reboot six hours on Exile and eight hours on Wasteland.

What's your performance baseline look like? Linux/Windows? Average FPS? Are you actually maxing your hardware out on these? What seems to be the limitation for you, CPU? Net? I/O?

Are you using SQL maintenance scripts, purging unused/inaccessed vehicles as well as containers? What map, and how heavily modified is your server/mission? (For instance, are you running 200 zombies on each + separate mission systems? Infistar?)

All DB's are local to the server they are running?

That's the interesting part, when we're more or less maxed on the main server we're not that high in resource usage i think it maxed out at around 70% for the better host with 1 server hosted on it.

FPS is around 40ish i would say when it's maxed out.

We got 3 servers and it's the Cherno one that's acting up the most, that is hosted solo on the better server.

The issue is basically that everything freezing, you don't ping out but it takes between 2-10 minutes to release.

Not sure about the SQL maintenance, got to ask the Dev's on that one.

This is my spec btw.

Edit#1

This is the screenshot from the smaller dedi we got running with 2 server on it, currently hosting over 80 players.

Edit #2 The db's are hosted are locally, We got infistar, The missions are customized, not to heavily tho,.

Yes, that is the case with vanilla mods. The server can easily handle it, having both servers up.
We are running quite bit of mods, with no headless client. We are using windows server 2012, Linux would help out, but the rest of the staff members do not know how to use Linux.
We run two servers with 80 populated.

I run nowhere near vanilla. Our Exile has two mission systems + zombie AI + huge customizations both server-side and mission as well as added CUP everything + TRYK.

Wasteland is much the same, with a ton added to this as well. Currently the servers are both 64/64 plus I have an active Ark server going with 10 folks in it as well. Both server frames are in the teens with them max pop.

Are you with the OP?

Check this out:

I had an issue such as yours above with our Wasteland server not too long ago. It would just hang, randomly, then have to catch itself up which would take a few minutes. If it went too long then everyone would be kicked with timed out messages but the server would resume status quo. Updating to the latest perf builds resolved this for me, I'd start there:

I can not endorse the performance builds enough. Client side  and server side sees HUGE performance increases.
