Base Props / Homely Items / aesthetics / Interior Design

8 posts in this topic

Hello There!

I'm not sure what everyone thinks, but I'd love to be able to craft items to place in and around my base that don't necessarily perform a critical function or have any role other than to make it look more personalised and homely. I think this would make some really nice end game content and it could be used for long term players to reflect on their achievements on the server. It would also be really cool raiding somebodies base and seeing how they've decorated their pad. These are things maybe that could be looked at later in development but would definitely add tons of extra fun to the survival module and encourage base building and upkeep.

This could include items like;

- Plants / flowers

- small decorative lamps

- Ceiling Lights

- Pool Tables.

- Fireplace

- Book Shelf

- Wallpaper

- Candles

- Alternative Storage devices (weapons locker /  shelves etc)

- White Board / Chalk Board (Maybe this could be interactive)

- Maps to go on the wall (which you could drop pins on to show to your family members the places of interest)

-Table (which you could place trophys, plants on etc)

- Base raiding trophy (which has the flag on of the base you raided and when you click on it you can see the name of the base raided) - This item could be placed on the above table

- Sofas

- Dinning Set

- Deck Chair

- Rocking Chair

- Instruments - (Guitars / Pianos etc)

Some items could have more complex applications and add new layers to gameplay

A couple of examples;

1) Photo frame and Photo - A camera could be looted and used to take pictures. We could use a dark room, maybe located somewhere on the map or at trading outposts to develop the pictures and then you could place the pictures in the frame and your wall

2) Shower - This could be connected to your water barrel. It could clean your character, helping heal wounds faster or reducing the chance of infection (assuming something like infections are added later). It could even be used to help clean off radioactive material. Of course you would be wearing swimming shorts or a swim suit to avoid causing any offense :-)

3) A Bar - Craft a bar and build a distillery to provide alcohol for your family and friends

4) Laptop / Computer (Play mini-games maybe?, hack into other family systems with risk of losing respect or popcaps but maybe make lots of popcap if successful. Other families could have a time window (maybe a couple of days) to respond to hack and stop it from been successful.

5) Kitchenware - Cookers / Water Filtration Units / Fridges / Microwaves / Kettles / cupboards - All could be used to prepare and store food.

6) Bed - Could be used to regenerate faster or as a spawn point (with an hour or so cool down on it)

7) Wind Farm and Solar Panels with a large hook up battery to store the energy and use in your house hold items.

Just a few ideas anyway! See what folks think.

I'm talking about mostly static assets that perform no function so I can't see them been that demanding on the server / local systems. While I'm no expert I think the fun would way outweigh any hardly noticeable performance hits.

As much as I like the idea of the items you have mentioned you have to remember that this is a military simulator and NOT a Sims War pack DLC.  A table and chair is as far as I would go when adding cosmetics into my base due to the fact a laptop can be placed on the desk and chair just for show.  99% of my time is spent out of my base doing missions and looting for stuff to sell to fund my wall upgrade etc.

Again, this is end-end game content for when people want a break from having their heart pounding whilst getting shot silly on missions. It just adds another (optional) aspect to game play that is less stressful and makes the most of having our strongholds!

I appreciate Arma is a military simulator, but Exile is a mafia simulator and from what I remember the mafia like to populate their homes with expensive furniture! ;-)

To be honest, most the static items you mention are already available in game, but to have them added into the building table, would only take scripts. Then most people might not even use them because they're busy out killing things or farming. Though, i think the ability to farm (growing plants and food) would be something more interesting given Tanoa's so green with a massive amount of new plants that are half grown and full grown, maybe plant it, takes a few restarts to grow to full and then get food from it.
