Discussion - HC Competitive Exile Server

22 posts in this topic

So, a team is working on creating a thoroughly balanced and adjusted Exile server.

Some things we are planning to implement -

  • Complete removal of vanilla optics and weapons
  • Complete integration of RHS weapons, vest, and acc.
  • Finely tuned and customized progression and dispersion of loot and wealth.
  • Server hosted on the exile HC difficulty.
  • Integrated ladder system for solo and group play.
  • Focused on Realism game-play, embracing Exile lore.
  • On a very fresh and well made map that we have not seen in the exile community.

We are veterans focused on attention to detail and balance of the community. We hope to focus ourselves to developing a sort of seasonal ladder system which promotes in server rivalry, good judgement, group play (through team ladders) all within the core of the exile mod!

Let the can of worms be opened.

Marketing (and screenwriting) 101:  Show, don't tell.

I love the idea of a top tier HC server but I would have held off on this announcement until you actually launched your website and your server so people know you're not all talk.

I'm sure I'm being unnecessarily cynical.

Haha, I think you guys are missing what I am trying to talk about here.

ALSO: THIS IS NOT MEANT TO ADVERTISE, that's why I am not putting a face or name on it.

So, for those of you who do not know what a ladder system is, and why I am concerned if this idea would even work in exile.

The server itself would run in 3 month seasons, at the end of the season everything would be wiped and reset, with the winners of the season receiving rewards for performance. Prizes could be anything from a special hat in game, to steam gift cards.

Now, on to what a ladder is. A solo ladder, is essentially a ranking system that tracks the performance of every player on the server, K.D, Respect, Etc. Same as we are all use too, the solo ladder would be open to all players who would join and would run during the 3 month cycle that is the regular season. Players who do well, maintain high KD and high respect would move up the ladder, and others down. (( NPC Kills would not count for this ladder, obviously ))

Now, the second part, which is what I am really on the fence about, is the team ladder. The team ladder works the same as the above only the difference being you would have to register your four(three?/two?) man team BEFORE the start of the season, once this team is formed it shouldn't' be changed. The team ladder would likely have larger prizes and be the focal point of competition within the community.

Now what I really want to know if this kinda of competitive play would even be welcomed by the exile community, what troubles to you all see in the logistics, not in maintaining a player base, but in keeping the in game content diverse, fair, and within efforts to always keep things focused on this competitive game-play.

Honestly, at this stage I could care less about advertisements, I just want to see what everyone thinks of a exile server that has a regular 3 month season, with victors crowned at the end for there performance and it all starts over again, giving players a chance to be the big dawg, and never have to play perpetual catch-up.

well sounds interesting but, IMO it would promote KOS even more. possibly spawn-raping too. it all depends on the loot and vehicles provided tho, if there will not be any heavily armored cars with guns it should be more or less ok.

;D Sever will be up for stress testing and balance revision within the next two weeks, the first regular season will start July 1st.

Things we have done.

- Loot, Traders, RHS implementation, Vanilla removal.

- Complete re-balance of the loot dispersion, and trade.

- Map layout designed to promote exploration and conflict at certain hot zones.

- Trade Zones are built and looking nice, but they are all small and simple, as to not interfere with server performance.

- Overall the map is playable, and we are now just finishing up the last bits such as AI, Supply Drops, Etc.

That's what makes me think respect should play a heavy role on your ladder position. A person with 10 kills 5, deaths, and -100 respect should place below a person with 5 kills, 10 deaths, and +100 respect. This enforces people to not Bambi slay etc, I am all for sneaking around traders and such as I would like for people to always be on there toes and really feel exiled, the field shouldn't be a place for conversation, that should be what safe zones are for.

Also yes, the access to any sort of armed vic is EXTEMELY limited, in the fact that the work that would go into getting one would be allot. As for weapons, gear, etc, LOOT is the primary way to get things, trade is secondary, thus loot first, then sell and rearm, rather than what I have seen on other servers.

Another thing of note, the only up-armored vics we have are unarmed transports, used primarily for moving weapons caches and loot hauls. Every armed vic we have can be dealt with by most belt fed weapons systems, and most small arms.

This all being said, the above is all worries for me and my team in assuring balance is of the up-most quality. The amount of attention to detail we have taken into the working of our loot and trade system is beyond explanation.

We are worried about a ton of loop holes, and issues with keeping things as focused on competition as possible.
