Programmers Wanted

4 posts in this topic

Hello all,

Not sure where to post this so feel free to move it if there is an off topic area I neglected.

I am not a programmer, I have however been in business, working for myself for most of my working life. I say that because I broke my back 10 years ago and have been trying to find a business I could work at whilst being a bit shit at walking and moving about.

So, I am always coming up with business ideas, ways to make money and the like but it has only been recently that I came up with an idea I would really like to pursue. Here is my problem then. I contacted a software development company, pitched my idea and asked what it would cost to build something like it. They told me to send them my brief, they would have a meeting, put some ideas together about what can be done and maybe even put a rough demo together, great, but to tell me if they could do what I was asking for they want £7500.

I'm not willing to pay for what is essentially a quote, specifically a £7500 gamble if it means they can only produce a 1/4 of what I want.

So, I thought I would come here with my proposition, I have been speaking with a lot of people on the forum and it seems that you have a lot of skills that could bring my project to life. Here is what I was thinking as a financial split.

Work on the project when you can, when there is a working demo I will finalise the kickstarter campaign to raise capital. With this capital we buy the equipment to run the service, if the kickstarter failed it would just take longer to get the software complete and I would then have something to take to the bank but either way, once we have income we could then hire additional programmers to add features or designers to make things pretty. You will either complete the project or work with others to complete it but once the project is complete you will become a business partner, you will receive a 10% profit share stake in the company. By this I mean, every month you will receive 10% of the profits the company makes provided you have fulfilled your side of this deal in that we have a working piece of software.

Based on my figures, whilst rough but mildly educated, there is an enormous market for the full suite. The full suite would be the package used by streamers and content creators but the software would work for anyone marketing themselves online.

The full suite would come with a £4.99 monthly subscription and £1.99 if you just wanted to use the marketing service. With only 1000 streamers using the service worldwide the running costs would be in the region of £172 per month, taxes would be in the region of £918 and if there was only one employee, which would be me currently and I would take no salary until there were 5000 users, you would stand to receive £390.00 per month. As things scaled costs would increase as would salaries however, this would be a residual income for you for the entire period that the company is profitable for offering your skills now for free.

1000 users is 0.0666666666667% of one market. There are people using multiple services however, there are potentially many more markets and even 10,000 users would be considered a fail in my view. I would like to see 10,000 users in the first six months and with the income generated there is no reason an aggressive marketing campaign wouldn't achieve this.

These figures are very rough but they serve to outline the potential market and whilst there is an inherent risk in any venture all it will steal from you if it fails is time.

I have to think about these things from my point of view, I have no capital, I cannot work full time, I have nothing to offer but my skills as a salesman and business person. So what I am offering is the chance to be involved in the same way as me, risking as much as me and standing to lose what I do, time.

Once the project is launched and successful you can either be involved or sit and count your money but either way, you will receive the 10% profit share. If you wish to work and gain a salary too then that is something we can discuss at the time.

If you are interested and have the skills to bring a piece of software to life then please contact me. We can skype or meet and we can discuss the project in more detail but so you can work out if you can do this I will give you a quick idea of what you may need to understand.

I am trying to integrate many pieces of software into a single app. One interface that will allow people to manage their online profile, create and manage their created content, give them a single, easy to read analysis of their online marketing impact and create a simple and easy to use plan to increase their reach all whilst complying with the various policies issued by YouTube, Twitch etc. I would ideally like integration between the desktop and a mobile app that links a users accounts and shows them their reach and how effective their reach is.

In short I am a simple and honest man who finds myself in a difficult situation which I am looking to get out of. I am broke and broken but I have a great idea. If you think you have the skills and think you might like to work with me then please contact me here.

Thanks for looking.

PS Couldn't see anything that suggests I shouldn't post this but if it is not acceptable please let me know.
