Periodically Show Player Positions on Map?
RuineR replied to Long Beard's topic in General Discussion
I have played on servers that have something like this active. I am pretty sure it went based off of players in the characters LOS. Regardless of if YOU saw them or not, if your character had LOS on them, a green indicator appeared on the map just like when you see a party members indicator on the map only with no distance/name info. Didn't play on that server long enough to figure out what dictated how long those indicators stayed up. It was on an Esseker server with zombies and whatever script this was also marked zombies with their own unique emblem. The indicators for both player and zombies were real time so it made it WAY to easy to track players. As long as you spotted them, you could just check the map to see where they were exactly and where they were heading. It was very OP and definitely took away any stealth factor that may have been there otherwise. -
Player only. Not a server owner so my opinions are from a players perspective only. Visually, Tanoa looks amazing. The new sound design works wonders with this map. Running through the jungle in the rain is mesmerizing. Going into a tin roofed building and hearing the rain patter on the roof is something else. The rumbles of thunder are spot on. Size is very fair IMO. The main land is decent to traverse on foot and the outlying islands add to that. As far as cities, villages, and their buildings go, I think they lack variety. I know Altis only has a small amount of different buildings also but I think the fact that they are almost all enterable helped and the bigger cities and towns seemed to make good use of variations. Performance seems to be lacking. I am sure it is partly (maybe mostly) because of the dense forests and high res textures but where I will get a smooth 50-60 (or above) on Altis, Esseker, Chernarus, etc. I will rarely get to 45 consistently on Tanoa. I also suffer some of the worst FPS drops out of any map I have played Exile on. Some of this seems to be tied to the current memory leak issue that Arma seems to be having so I can't say how much is to be blamed on Tanoa itself but I am confident that the map itself definitely worsens the effects. Speaking to what I think may be a more direct Exile issue, with the map just being a catalyst, I have yet to find a Tanoa server with a good balance of weapon spawns. It seems that there will be either very few weapon spawns at all or when there are a good amount of weapon spawns, I can only find MP5s, MP7s, Shotguns, and pistols. This is fine as I like the challenge of fresh spawns only having easy access to lower powered weapons but even after 2+ hours of roaming and visiting sites that SHOULD have higher tier weapon spawns, those sub machine guns and shotguns are still way over saturated. My end verdict, as of this writing, is that I am putting Exile Tanoa servers to the side for the time being and continuing my rampages on Esseker servers (my favorite map currently) until some of these matters are resolved. I love Tanoas aesthetics but gameplay seems slow on every Tanoa server I have spent time on thus far.

Its a typical case of "mommy said no so I'm gonna go ask daddy" haha. That being said, to be fair, the default values for required respect that I have seen are pretty intense! I love the idea but if I could find a server that took some time and tweaked and balanced so that it is still a grind but not such a time commitment to rank up, I would be in heaven.

Only bad thing about same day updates, the good servers never update right away installed 1.0.0 not thinking anything of it and then realized all the good servers were still running .9.8.

tanao Official Tanoa server in the future? and your view on zombies?
RuineR replied to ✪EightyFive's topic in General Discussion
In regards to Tanoa official(or Tanoa at all for that matter), I just read something from Eichi a day or so ago mentioning that they have to find out if they will be able to include Tanoa without it affecting the base Exile code at all because as it stands, since Tanoa is part of the paid Apex, the issue is currently that if they included it, it would mean they would have to update with Tanoa assets in mind and that would lock all of Exile away to those who have not purchased Apex and he said he will not do that. I am paraphrasing what was said obviously and may have misconstrued part of what was said but I am pretty sure that is the issue currently. As for zombies, as others have mentioned, I think that should always be left up to server owners as Exile was never intended as a "zombie mod". I personally love and almost exclusively play on servers with zombies. Some mention it as being lore breaking but I don't think so. I just think of it like this; We are convicts exiled to these locations that are known to suffer from this virus. It is a punishment. An assumed death sentence not only due to bandits (ai) and other convicts (players) but also due to these infected beings. Zombies add so much more depth for me. If they could fix the sounds to be more accurate of the zombies, I would be ecstatic. -
Where are you located? I play Esseker w/ zombies almost exclusively. I don't have a "clan" but have a friend or two I run with but they have been growing bored of Exile. I am in the US and usually play on US Bravo or Sager Gaming Esseker servers. If you wouldn't mind just running as a 2 man (maybe 3 or 4 man at most if my other friends decide to play) I'd be down depending on your normal play hours and what not.

I have slowly been learning the ins and outs of editing gameplay videos and while I am still using simple, generic software, I was really proud with how I was able to get this installment of my Exile Moments series to come out. Hope some of you find some entertainment in it!

RuineR started following Base Raiding

Definitely not. Liken this to those who get into accidents for texting and driving. The person who texted them are not to blame. I'm not one to judge the intensity some people have for gaming but if a person is willing to "race" home and drive recklessly because of a notification that their base was being raided, they may want to seek some help for addiction. There is absolutely zero chance that a game or app developer would ever be held responsible for someone getting into an accident because of a notification from an app of theirs. That is silly.

Holy shit this is awesome! The last part about notifications is the only part that concerns me. From the sound of it, the base owners will receive a mobile notification the moment someone starts planting charges. This is fine if the owners are offline as it gives them a chance to login and defend if able. If they are in game though, I feel this is kind of OP. A group could do a long recon mission and wait for players the leave a base before they start their siege only to have it immediately shut down when the base owner gets a notification and comes racing right back. This would be almost guaranteed to happen assuming everyone utilizes the mobile feature but then we get into the issue of Meta playing too big of a role in deciding who to raid based off who we know or assume uses that external tool. If there was a way to disable that feature while the player is on the server and instead maybe have an in game alarm system that requires a decent amount of time and resources to craft or install for those that are in game that would be awesome.
