What would you like to see from an Exile Server?
Surefire replied to z3sp's topic in General Discussion
Have a read of exactly what I'd like in a server. In my opinion the popular servers are popular because they're popular. If more and more servers started to pop up with RP and tactical elements there is not a shred of doubt in my mind players would migrate to them. I understand their thinking though, if you want action it makes much more sense to join a server that has a lot of players on it rather than 15/20 players which you could play for hours and never see anyone else.- 33 replies

Server owners/admins select the places and amount of spawns, not the developers.

I believe they recently launched their own official server. Last time I checked it was the newest thread in the server section. I have to disagree about taking Exile the way of Breaking Point and having a single standard for the mod with little to no customization available. In my opinion that would be an extremely poor decision if they did that. All criticisms of the cookie-cutter servers aside what draws me most to Exile is the ability to add mods and the ability to change things up if you wanted to. Not many servers actually do change things up but the ability to is there if they decide to.

No matter how much time I had I would still want to feel like I earned everything I had instead of having literally everything I need handed to me as soon as I spawn. You seem to think that I'd like to see all servers have my HC rules. That's not the case at all, I feel like blowing off some steam and not taking it too serious every now and then too.

I agree that Breaking Point is a great mod, one of the best, and I don't know much about BP servers either, I also haven't played it in a very long time but I think what makes Exile so fun is the customization that's given to server owners. Custom traders, scripts, mods, etc. Back when I played BP you only had the BP items and weapons and mechanics. What they added is what was on the servers I didn't notice much difference between them but full disclosure I didn't really get into BP enough to notice. I've encountered people who do like the high-pop servers, I like them from time to time myself sometimes you just want to go on and not take things seriously and just unload on some guys, I get it. What I bolded and underlined is a very important statement.

I've been on plenty of servers, I've just given examples of some of the worst ones, but with that said you can't honestly sit there and tell me you haven't seen most, if not all of those things occurring consistently at some point. If you haven't I will counter your claim that you haven't been on enough servers yourself, or you're truly not paying any attention. I didn't spend 3 hours writing up a report about why the servers are the way they are because I went on only a few servers and they were similar. It's been this way for a while now and if you don't see any blatant similarities between all the popular servers you're ignoring them.

Sorry I could see how you could be confused, my mistake I should have been clearer. I meant their thoughts on my original post not the rules I totally get why you can't spam advertise your server.

And yet people still say a hard server wouldn't be popular... It would be if the owners networked correctly and drew the right players in. Owners saying they had hard servers but weren't popular so they gave up probably judged their server's popularity based on all the casual players that joined that don't like hard servers so they left. Which doesn't make sense.

I would love getting some of the devs opinions on this subject, is that possible? Do they go on this section?

Is messaging someone who has expressed interest in a type of server directing them to one not allowed even if it's not your server?
-
Should have spread the word through word-of-mouth, not blanket advertising. I've seen plenty of players posting topics on the Reddit and here on the forums asking for a harder server. The market for these servers is very niche and that's the only way something like this would take off.
-
That's possibly due to the fact that they joined the server not knowing it's different and thinking something is wrong because nothing is spawning like all the other servers. Or like you said they could just get bored having nothing handed to them on a platter. I believe if there was a server that was like I describe and it had it's own community that knew what they were getting into before they joined it would become more popular than people estimate.

So basically what you're saying is servers with the "popular server template" are popular and unpopular servers aren't. Thank you for that information.

Don't let anyone talk you out of it. TFAR is on A3L and if you're not on the TS I don't believe it even does anything. We have way too many servers that are afraid to take risks because the server owners think nobody would want to use X feature or mod.

That's a pretty broad statement. What did the 60/60 one have that the 0/60 didn't?
